A lab for implementing COVID diagnostic test has opened in Khujand, the capital of the northern Sughd province.

The lab reportedly began operating at the Sughd Center for Sanitary and Epidemiological Supervision on May 28.  It is still the first and only lab for implementing COVID diagnostic test in the area that will serve all cities and districts of the Sughd province.

“The lab has opened under the support of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population of Tajikistan and USAID Project and we will be able to carry out 72 PRC-based tests daily,” the deputy head of the Sughd Center for Sanitary and Epidemiological Supervision, Rustam Sobirov, told Asia-Plus in an interview.

According to him, the first local nine lab assistants have taken a special five-day training course on implementing COVID diagnostic test in Dushanbe.

“The test results will be known within two days” Sobirov said.

Recall, two virology labs have opened in the Khatlon provinces – in the cities of Bokhtar and Kulob.  The Bokhtar-based lab will serve 14 districts and cities in the province and it will carry out 150-200 PRC-based tests daily.

The Minister of Health and Social Protection of the Population, Jamoliddin Abdullozoda, told the national news agency Khovar on May 26 that five labs testing for COVID-19 now operate in Dushanbe and the number of such labs will increase in the future.

Within the next few days, such labs will open in all regions of the country, the minister noted.
