, April 7, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, Katia Goertz of

Frankfurt

School

of Finance & Management said that a number of workshops were conducted on financial planning for Tajik women in Vahdat and Kulob last month.

The idea of providing the seminars on Financial Education was generated by the fact that a lot of families, especially in the rural areas, do not have basic financial management skills. They are not used to family budgeting or use of financial services. Having this knowledge could however help them to build assets and to create wealth. Once acquired, these skills can be used in managing a wide range of individual, household as well as business resources. By providing them with training in financial planning, it is possible to build the capacity of low-income households to better control and plan with the financial resources they have. Thereby also being prepared for unexpected emergencies is of utmost importance.

Two trainers from

Frankfurt

School

of Finance & Management, Katia Goertz and Sabine Siebenbrock, together with their partners from the Non Governmental Organization Gender and Development are aiming at improving financial knowledge.

Sponsored by the German financial institution VR LEASING, four workshops took place in Vahdat (on March 10-11) and Kulob (March 13-14).

In the course of the two half-day seminars, the female participants were coached in managing income and expenses (including seasonality and emergency planning), budgeting, savings as well as risks and opportunities of taking credit. All materials as well as examples used are focusing on the practical applicability for the participants.

Through the training the participants are now able to make more informed financial decisions and improve their standard of living.
