DUSHANBE, April 7, 2009, Asia-Plus — On Tuesday April 7, the World Health Organization (WHO) Country Office in Tajikistan handed over some US$80,000 worth of lab equipment to the Republican Service for Sanitary and Epidemiologic Supervision within the Ministry of Health (MoH).

In all, 10 items of medical equipment and 35 items of reagents were handed over to the service for sanitary and epidemiologic supervision.

The equipment-handover ceremony was attended by Dr Santino Severoni, WHO Representative in Tajikistan, Mr. Azam Mirzoyev, Deputy Health Minister, and Mr. Samariddin Aliyev, Director of the republican Service for Sanitary and epidemiologic Supervision.

“This lab equipment  is intended for diagnosis of water-borne infectious diseases and the sanitary and epidemiologic service now has opportunities to diagnose all types of water-borne diseases,” the deputy minister said.
