DUSHANBE, April 7, 2009, Asia-Plus  — On April 6, the Migration Service within the Ministry of Interior (MoI) and the Agency for Technical Cooperation and Development (ACTED) singed a memorandum of cooperation.

According to the migration service, the document provides for holding joint events aimed at strengthening protection of rights of labor migrants.  The memorandum was signed in the frames of the Development of Potential and Exchange of Information for Increase of Positive Impact of labor Migration on Development of Rural Communities Project that is implemented by ACTED under financial support of the European Union, the source said.

He further added that senior representatives of the migration service met with representatives of a number of local NGOs and international organizations in Dushanbe at the end of last week to discuss ways of solving problems facing Tajik labor migrants in the territory of the Russian Federation.

“Provision of Tajik labor migrants with jobs remains one of the most topical issues and in this connection, we plan to conduct a number of job provision surveys in Russia’s Samara region in mid-May,” the source said, noting that the surveys would be conducted by a team comprising representatives of the migration service and a number of international organizations active in Tajikistan.

“Meetings will be held with administrators of the Samara region, senior representatives of the Samara police and migration service directorates, as well as heads of economic entities and Tajik diasporas there, and the results of these meetings will be summed up at a number of final business meetings that will discuss ways of solving problems facing Tajik labor migrants in Russia and other CIS states,” the source said.
