International theatre festival concludes in Tajik capital today

DUSHANBE, April 9, Asia-Plus — Performance entitled “Escapades of Afandi” staged by Danghara Musical-Dramatic Theatre (Tajikistan) will conclude the Navrouz 2007 International Theatre Festival in Dushanbe.  The performance is being shown at the Dushanbe Youth Theatre named after Mahmoudjon Vohidov today afternoon. 

A ceremony of closing of the festival will be held at the State Academic Drama Theatre named after Abulqosim Lohuti in Dushanbe today evening.   

We will recall that an April 6 opening ceremony was followed by Giuseppe Verdi’s La Traviata opera performed by the Tajik State Opera and Ballet Theater. 

According to the Ministry of Culture, five professional theatres from Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan participated in the event and six plays, including today’s play by the Danghara theatre, – comedies and dramas – were played during a three-day festival.  

The source at a MoC said that the main objective of the festival is to promote expansion of cultural cooperation between the countries and build cultural bridge between them. 

The Russian Drama Theatre named after V. Tkhapsayev from North Ossetia (Russia) was also supposed to take part in the festival but the theatre group did not manage to arrive in Tajikistan because for financial reasons.
