DUSHANBE, April 7, Asia-Plus — Tajik Aluminum Plant (TadAZ), located in the Tursunzoda district, has been renamed Tajik State Unitary Enterprise Tajik Aluminum Company.  

The source at the Tajik aluminum enterprise said that the plant had been renamed for the purpose of raising prestige of Tajikistan’s aluminum sector on international arena and continuing ongoing restructuring.    

According to him,  the enterprise last year produced 413,800 tons of primary aluminum, which is 2.8 percent more than it was originally planned.  “This year, the plant plans to produce up to 420,800 tons of raw aluminum,” the source said.    

External trade turnover of TadAZ in 2006 amounted to $1.7725 billion, which 62.2 percent or $679.5 million more than in 2004, according to the source.  

Tajik aluminum plant is one the largest taxpayers in Tajikistan.  Last year, the enterprise transferred to all-level budgets of the country more than 161.3 million somonis (equivalent to $48.9 million), which is 48.4 million somonis more than in 2004.  

“The plant pays special attention to environmental impact in its activity.  To satisfy the environmental protection requirements the enterprise last year spent 17.5 million somonis, which is 13.3 million somonis more than in 2004,” the source said.

The Tajik Aluminum Plant produced the first aluminum bar on March 31, 1975.  The plant accounts for 43 percent of the volume of production of industrial goods in Tajikistan.  In 2006, TadAZ’s share in Tajikistan’s export made 75.3 percent.
