DUSHANBE, April 4, Asia-Plus – The 18th two-day session of the CIS interstate Council for hydrometeorology opened in Dushanbe today.
Begmurod Mahmadaliyev, director of Tajikistan’s Agency for Hydrometeorology, inaugurating the meeting noted that the meeting is dedicated to sum up the results of cooperation for 2006, consider a progress of implementation of agreements on the CIS interstate hydrometeorological network and discuss the plans for the future.
Participants at the meeting are also scheduled to share hydrometeorological information and the results of research in the field of hydrometeorology. The meeting is also aiming to discuss issues related to development of overground monitoring networks within the CIS area and creation of database.
The basic areas of the cooperation within the CIS hydrometeorological security, information exchange, the global climate change study, new devices creation, environment pollution monitoring and so forth.
Delegations from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan are participating in the Dushanbe session’s work.
The CIS Interstate Council for Hydrometeorology was set up on February 8, 1992 to receive and to use the hydrometeorological information which is necessary for forecasting hydrometeorological processes, their influence on environment, prompt informing and warning the authorities and population, efficient using in economic branches. The Council includes 14 working groups composed of leading specialists in the hydrometeorological sphere.
