A number of ministerial posts can become vacant after parliamentary elections

A number of ministerial posts can become vacant after parliamentary elections as several government officials are nominated by ruling People’s Democratic Party of Tajikistan (PDPT) to run in the upcoming parliamentary elections through the proportional representation (party list)

The PDPT’s party list includes 28 persons, the Security Council Secretary Mahmadali Vatanzoda, the Minister of Labor and Employment of the Population Sumangul Taghoizoda, the head of the Committee for Women and Family Affairs Idigul Taghoizoda, and her deputy Zulfiya Davlatzoda.

If these persons are elected to the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament), their positions will become vacant.  

The Majlisi Namoyandagon has 63 members, elected for a five-year term in, 22 by proportional representation (party list) and 41 in single-seat constituencies.  

Under Tajikistan’s legislation, a deputy of the Majlisi Namoyandagon may not be a deputy of other representative agency and the agency of local self-government, may not occupy another post nor engage in entrepreneurial activity, except scientific and creative.

Meanwhile, by president’s decree Asror Latifzoda on December 16 was relieved of his post of Deputy Minister of Defense in connection with transfer to other job.  He was appointed deputy chairman of People’s Democratic Party of Tajikistan.
