DUSHANBE, March 16, Asia-Plus – On Thursday March 15, officers from the Tajik Drug Control Agency (DCA) detained a 27-year-old resident of Kulob Dushanbe when he was trying to push 1.5 kilograms of cannabis.   

Criminal proceedings have been instituted against him and an investigation is under way.  

In the meantime, a sitting of the coordinating council for drug addiction prevention was held at the counternarcotics agency on March 16.  The meeting brought together representatives from the country’s relevant ministries and agencies as well as representatives from the Tajik branch of Open Society Institute/Assistance Foundation (OSI/AF) and the USAID-funded Drug Demand Reduction Program.  

Participants at the meeting considered and endorsed a plan of actions of the council for this year, as well as other issues related to preventing drug addiction in Tajikistan.
