Tajik leader invited to attend Victory Day military parade in Moscow

Tajik President Emomali Rahmon has been invited to attend a Victory Day military parade that will take place in Moscow’s Red Square on June 24.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has invited leaders of all CIS nations to attend the Victory Day military parade dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the defeat of Nazi Germany.

A source within the Tajik government said that it could be ruled out that while in Moscow, Emomali Rahmon would hold bilateral meetings with a number of his counterparts from the CIS nations.

Recall, President Vladimir Putin has postponed the 9 May Victory Day parade in Moscow's Red Square because of the coronavirus pandemic.

This year sees the 75th anniversary of the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany in 1945, and the annual military parade has not been postponed before.

The parade will take place instead on June 24 – the day when Soviet Marshal Georgy Zhukov led the 1945 parade.

According to some sources, for the first time, 20 samples of the latest armored and aviation equipment, including the Kurganets-25 infantry fighting vehicles and the latest S-300V4 and S-350 air defense systems, will take part in the parade, which will involve 1,250 bandsmen, an estimated 16,000 personnel in the ground column, 4,500 in the mobile column of around 250 plus vehicles, and 600 aircraft crew personnel of the 80-strong flypast.
