President Emomali Rahmon is expected to pay working visit to the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO) in the second half of August.

The main purpose of the visit is for the head of state to get acquainted with the socioeconomic situation in the region, a source within the Tajik government told Asia-Plus in an interview.

While in GBAO, Emomali Rahmon will inaugurate a number of economic and social facilities and hold a meeting with senor representatives of local law enforcement authorities to discuss issues related to providing observance of the law in the region, ensuring supremacy of the law and management of border with Afghanistan, the source said.

According to him, Emomali Rahmon is also scheduled to hold a number of meetings with the local population.

Meanwhile, President’s Executive Office has reportedly informed the GBAO government that they should meet the head of state modestly, without carpets and involving schoolchildren in presidents welcoming ceremony.
