DUSHANBE, October 30, Asia-Plus – On Friday October 27, Onno van der Wind, the head OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) Election Observation Mission in Tajikistan, met with Davlatali Davaltov, the first deputy head of ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDPT) als head of the election staff for the party’s candidate for president.  

According to the PDPT election staff, in the course of the talks the two exchanged views on the issues related to a progress of preparations for the upcoming presidential election in the country, providing equal opportunities for all candidates, role of state-run and independent media in the election process. 

Davlatov briefed van der Wind on a position of their party on the election process.

A source at the PDPT election staff said that the OSCE/ODIHR mission head had expressed satisifaction with a process of preparations for the election and free particiaption of all political parties and public associations in the election, as well as had come out with a number of suggestions on this issue.   

At the conclusion, Davaltov noted that the PDPT leadership will undertake efforts to ensure that this important political event is held in democratic and transparent atmosphere and meets all international standards, according to the source.
