Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and minister of industry, energy and fuel resources of Kyrgyzstan Saparbek Balkibekov discussed issues related to supplies of Turkmen energy resources to Kyrgyzstan at a meeting on 17 September.
During the meeting Saparbek Balkibekov said “Kyrgyzstan is high interest in importing Turkmen natural and liquefied gas, oil products and electricity,” the Turkmenistan.ru reported.
Having noted that Turkmenistan is guided by diversification principles in its energy policy, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said Turkmenistan was ready to supply energy resources to all interested parties, “including regional neighbors with whom we have established long and reliable ties.”
In this context, the sides discussed prospects and conditions for supply of energy resources, the press service of the Turkmen president said. According to the Turkmen policy, one of the conditions is the sale of natural gas at the border of Turkmenistan.
It should be recalled that before leaving for Turkmenistan Saparbek Balkibekov said he was looking forward to secure imports of 1 billion cubic meters of natural gas a year from Turkmenistan. According to him, “if mutually beneficial agreements are reached during Kyrgyz-Turkmen talks, Kyrgyzstan can solve its problems of energy supplies in the short and long run.”
