DUSHANBE, October 27, Asia-Plus – An official opening of the Second Tajikistan International Film Festival, Didor 2006, was held at the Jomi Cinema Complex in Dushanbe yesterday.

Naum Kleyman, the head of an international jury consisting of well-known filmmakers, actors and critics, told the festival-opening ceremony that Didor will promote development of new cinematography and young talented filmmakers.  

The festival started with a showing of “Ovora” (The Rover) by Tajik filmmakers Gulandom Muhabbatova and Daler Rahmatov.

Works by filmmakers from Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Armenia, France, Georgia, Iran, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Uzbekistan are being presented in the festival that will last until October 30.

The festival works in several sections, including an international competition (10 full-length and eight short-length movies) and the Common Heritage section, in which four full-length and five short movies are competing for awards.

Today, three movies will be shown in the international competition section: “Zhoshe” by Kazakh filmmaker Daniyar Salamat; joint Iranian-Japanese movie “Poet of the Wastes” by Iranian filmmaker Muhammad Ahmadi and “Thirteen” by Georgian filmmaker Gela Babluani.

Besides, movies shot by Iran’s Center for Documentaries and Experimental movies and short movies about Afghanistan will also be shown today.  

73 movies will be shown during the Didor 2006 festival in Dushanbe.
