DUSHANBE, September 21, Asia-Plus – Tajikistan can and should share with other member nations of the United Nations its experience in achieving peace, Vladimir Sotirov, Head of the United Nations Tajikistan Office of Peace-Building (UNTOP), said in his interview with Asia-Plus.  

According to him, reestablishment of peace and accord in Tajikistan is manifestation of wisdom of the leaders – President Emomali Rahmonov and Said Abdullo Nuri who managed to reach an agreement on the most complicated issues.  

“I believe an experience of settling the most complicated issue and achieving peace through negotiations [in Tajikistan] could serve as a unique example for other states,” said Sotirov, “The most important thing is wish and readiness of confronting sides  to achieve peace and fulfill their obligations on the peace agreement in future.”  

The UNTOP head noted that next year, Tajikistan will mark the 10

th

anniversary of signing of the General Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and National Accord and it is important to organize international conference to discuss methods of achieving peace through negotiations and how to use this experience in other countries for settling conflicts.
