DUSHANBE, September 18, Asia-Plus – Tajikistan’s Party of Economic Reforms has named its candidate for president.

The second congress of the party was held in the building of the Vladimir Mayakovsky Theatre in Dushanbe on September 17.  149 delegates that participated in the congress’ work unanimously nominated the party’s leader Olimjon Boboyev as candidate to run in the presidential election that will take place on November 6. 

 The congress delegates also discussed an election platform of the candidate and considered and endorsed a plan of actions to prepare and carry out the election campaign. 

The congress also heard a report by the party leader Olimjon Boboyev on the political and economic situation in Tajikistan.  Boboyev noted that the party’s aims are to reduce poverty, conduct proper privatization, and attract foreign investments.  Among the main directions of the party’s election campaign he named increasing role of industry in the country’s economy, efficient use of energy resources and raw materials, development of small and medium-sized enterprises.  According to Olimjon Boboyev, over the past year, four members of the party have been elected to local legislatures. 

The congress delegates also elected the party’s central committee.

During the congress it was noted that at present the party has 5,012 members in 61 of 68 cities and districts across the country.

The Party of Economic Reforms was registered with the Ministry of Justice in November last year.  Its leader Olimjon Boboyev was born in the Hissor district in 1952.  In 1972, he graduated from Tajik Technical Institute.  He has scientific degree of Doctor of Sciences in Economics.  Since 2003, he has been rector of Tajikistan’s Institute of Transport.  Married with five children.
