DUSAHNBE, September 18, Asia-Plus — Prospects of further expansion of economic cooperation between Tajikistan and the Russian Federation were in the center of discussions of President Emomali Rahmonov with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov in Dushanbe on September 15.
“Political and economic relations between the two countries are developing dynamically,” Fradkov remarked at a briefing after his meet with Rahmonov, noting that political cooperation between Russia and Tajikistan is “at high level.”
According to him, during the meeting they also discussed a progress of the implementation of projects being of mutual interest. “We have good potentials and intend to expand trade cooperation between our countries because this region is of interest for Russian companies,” Fradkov said.
Russian premier noted that the next meeting of the Russian-Tajik economic commission will be held in the second half of October. “Rahmonov urged to speed up the work on completion of the construction of the Roghun power plant,” Russian official stressed, adding that “a few technical issues” to be resolved on a progress of the implementation of the Roghun project. “Technical, financial, social, and environment studies for implementing this project are nearing completion and we intend to consider this issue at the next meeting of the Russian-Tajik economic commission,” Fradkov said.
