DUSHANBE, August 23, Asia-Plus — The National Ban of Tajikistan (NBT) plans to review the rate of refinancing and inflation rate this week.   

According to information from the NBT, at present experts from the country’s central bank are considering efforts to curb inflation at the rate of 8 percent.  In the beginning of this year, the country’s government expected inflation to be at the rate of 7 percent.  

According to figures provided by the State Committee for Statistics, in July, the inflation rate in consumer sector of the country amounted to 0.9 percent.  Over the last month, prices set by producers of food products increased by 1.1 percent, non-food products – by 0.7 percent, and rates for services rendered to the population increased by 0.5 percent.  

In January-July 2006, the rate of inflation in the consumer sector has amounted to 7.5 percent.  Over the same seven-month period, prices set by producers of food products increased by 8.5 percent, non-foodstuffs have risen by 1.1 percent, and rates for services rendered to the population increased by 15.6 percent.

 An average monthly rate of inflation in the consumer sector has amounted to 1.1 percent (in 2005, an average monthly rate of inflation in the consumer sector was 0.69 percent).  In 2005, the inflation rate in Tajikistan amounted to 7.1 percent.
