International organizations provided humanitarian aid in the form of food and non-food items to residents of Vakhdat and Rudaki, affected by the disaster caused by heavy rains at the end of August, the Committee on Emergency Situations under the Government of Tajikistan informed Asia-Plus.

In particular, at the end of last week, the Committee on Emergency Situations, together with international partners, provided assistance to 446 households of rural jamoats of the city of Vakhdat and 90 households of rural jamoats of Rudaki district, which suffered as a result of mudslides on August 27-28.

The volume of the cargo is not reported.

"With operational coordination and cooperation with the Aga Khan Agency for Habitat, the UN World Food Programme in Tajikistan, the UN Children's Fund and the NGO “Dili hairkhoh”, aid was successfully delivered to the population of cities and areas affected by natural disasters," the ministry noted.

According to the CES, the assistance consists of food, basic necessities, mattresses, hygiene kits and water storage containers, as well as tablets for water purification. The cargo was delivered by the Emergency Service to the rural jamoats of Vakhdat and Rudaki cities.

Currently, work is continuing to eliminate the consequences of a natural disaster and provide assistance to other affected villages and jamoats, the implementation of which is under the control of the Emergency Situations Committee.

In Tajikistan, heavy rains on August 27 provoked natural disasters that claimed the lives of 21 people.
