DUSAHNBE, August 17, Asia-Plus – Intention of President Emomali Rahmonov to declare amnesty is just his political move ahead of the presidential election, Rahmatullo Valiyev, the deputy head of Tajikistan’s Democratic Party (DPT), remarked in his interview with Asia-Plus today.

According to him, the amnesty bill endorsed by the country’s parliament today has been expectable move.  “The amnesty will apply mainly to women having many children women as well as prisoners, who are serving their sentences for minor crimes such as theft, traffic accident, etc.,” Mr. Valiyev said.

“This year, many events of national and political significance such as the 15

th

anniversary of Tajikistan’s Independence, a Year of Aryan Civilization, the 2700

th

anniversary of Kulob, will be held in the country” said the Asia-Plus interlocutor, “These events are good pretext for making such a decision.”

According to him, organizing celebrations to mark these events Emomali Rahmonov pursues the only end – to gain higher rating in the presidential election set for November this year.  “At present Tajikistan’s media, especially those run by state, are publishing materials lauding President Rahmonov’s services to the Tajik people and preparations made for jubilee celebrations,” the DPT deputy head concluded.
