Citing a source within the Mazhilis (Kazakhstan’s lower chamber of parliament), KazTaz says Mazhilis member Dariga Nazarbayeva, the daughter of Kazakhstan's first president Nursultan Nazarbayev, is in the United Arab Emirates (ГФУ), namely in Dubai.
Kazakh media reports say Dariga Nazarbayeva was a no-show in the Mazhilis sessions since the start of the protests in January.
On January 12, media reports said she contracted COVID-19 and was placed in isolation at home.
“Until the end of January, Dariga Nazarbayeva will be on leave without pay in connection with rehabilitation after the coronavirus infection,” diapozon.kz reported on January 17.
However, after the change of Nur Otan party leadership, when Nursultan Nazarbayev was replaced by the incumbent president Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, it was discovered that Dariga Nazarbayeva is no longer a member of the political council of the party or its bureau.
