Citing the press center of the Main Border Guard Directorate at the State Committee for National Security (SCNS), Tajikistan’s state-run news agency Khovar reported on May 17 that control over the stay, entry and exit of citizens in the border area will be tightened.

A statement released by the main Border Guard Directorate, in particular, notes that “tendency to complicate the situation in the region and the world, attempts by terrorist and extremist group to illegally cross state borders and commit inhuman terrorist acts in various parts of the planet, including Tajikistan, require strengthening the protection of the country's territory, stability and tranquility, as well as ensuring the peaceful life of the population.”

Entry of foreign citizens and stateless persons into the border area without permission of the Foreign Ministry and internal affairs bodies is strictly prohibited, and consent to admit other persons to the border areas is given only with identification documents and re-entry issued for the trip.

Border posts will exercise proper control over the entry and exit of citizens to border territories.

In this connection, the Tajik authorities call on citizens and guests of Tajikistan entering our exiting Tajik territory to have a passport and other identification documents with them when traveling to border areas of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO) and Khatlon province.

Entry into the mentioned areas without meeting the above requirements is prohibited, says the statement.
