One of Russia’s largest pharmaceutical  enterprises – Tatkhimfarmpreparaty – is reportedly  considering the possibility of starting production of medicines in Tajikistan.

Russia’s state-run news agency TASS reports that Yevgeny Korenkov, the Trade Representative of Russia in Tajikistan, announced this during the International Economic Forum “Russia – Islamic World”, which took place in Kazan, Russia’s Tatarstan Republic, last week.

In a statement delivered at the session entitled “Russia – Tajikistan Industrial Dialogue”, Mr. Korenkov reportedly noted on May 16 that “on the initiative of Tajikistan’s Ministry of Industry and New Technologies, Tatkhimfarmpreparaty is considering the issue of organizing the production of medicines in Tajikistan.”

Mr. Korenkov noted that last year, Tatarstan Republic accounted for nearly 5 percent of Russia’s exports to Tajikistan.

Tajik Deputy Minister of Industry and New Technologies, Aziz Nazarov, for his part, said, “We see huge potential to increase our turnover and are ready for close collaboration with Russian companies interested in investing in Tajikistan’s economy.”

The 15th International Economic Forum “Russia – Islamic World: KazanForum” 2024 took place at the Kazan Expo IEC on May 14-19.

“Russia – Islamic World: KazanForum” is a platform for the development of cooperation in the field of trade relations, foreign direct investments, discussion of issues of the Islamic financial system.  The goals of the Forum comprise the growth of trade turnover, implementation of projects, development of partner banking, technological alliances in Russia and the countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), as well as attracting investments.

Recall, the issue of joint production of medicines was discussed at a meeting of Tajik Minister of Health and Social Protection of the Population Jamoliddin Abdullozoda with Iranian Health Minister Bahram Einollah that took place in Iran’s capital Tehran, in early March this year on the sidelines of a two-day international conference on family health.
