The Ministry of economic development and Trade of Tajikistan (MoEDT) and KfW Development Bank have signed an agreement on allocation of 11 million euros for construction of TB hospital in the city of Kulob, Khatlon province, says the MoEDT press center.

The document was reportedly inked by Mr. Zavqi Zavqizoda, the Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan, and Mr. Andreas Schneider, KfW Regional Director for Central Asia, in Dushanbe today.

According to the MoEDT press center, the project will implemented within the framework of the TB Prevention Program, Phase VI.

The funds are reportedly allocated within the framework of the government-to-government agreement between Tajikistan and Germany on financial cooperation, signed in 2020.

36,258 TB patients, including 19,811 men, 14,447 women and 3,795 children, have reportedly been officially registered in Tajikistan over the past eight years.

In accordance with amendments made to country’s Code of Civil Procedure, patients with various forms of tuberculosis can be treated in Tajikistan forcibly since 2016.   If a patient with tuberculosis, posing a danger to other people, refuses treatment, then through the court he/her may be sent for compulsory diagnosis and hospitalization.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Tajikistan is among the 30 high multidrug-resistant tuberculosis burden countries in the world.
