The Government of Republic of Tajikistan and the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the visa-free regime for holders of diplomatic and service passports, according to the Tajik MFA information department.

The document was inked by Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin and his Saudi counterpart Faisal Bin Farhan Al Saud on September 27, 2024 in New York on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

In addition to the MoU, the foreign ministers engaged in discussions on key issues, addressing topics related to regional security, economic cooperation, and global concerns such as water management and climate change.

These discussions reportedly signal a continued strengthening of ties between Tajikistan and Saudi Arabia on both bilateral and international platforms.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia recognized the independence of the Republic of Tajikistan on January 11, 1992.  Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia were established on February 22, 1992.  The Embassy of the Republic of Tajikistan in Riyadh was opened in September 2008.  The Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Dushanbe was opened in 2010.
