On October 5, in Vahdat Township, a parent of a student assaulted a history teacher, Faizikhon Rajabova, at School No. 8.  This incident occurred on the eve of  Teacher’s Day, and the teacher is currently hospitalized.  The incident was reported by Ms. Rajabova herself through social media.

According to Ms. Rajabova, the parent entered her classroom without permission and attacked her in front of the students.

The alleged motive for the assault was a complaint Rajabova made to the school’s administration the previous day, October 4, regarding the disruptive behavior of the student, who is the child of the attacker.  Rajabova had taken the student to the principal’s office, but no disciplinary action was taken, which possibly led to the violent reaction.

In response to the incident, the Ministry of Education and Science of Tajikistan announced that the situation is under the control of the minister and a special working group.

The ministry, in cooperation with relevant authorities, is currently investigating the matter and will provide further information once the investigation is complete.

This case is not isolated

Similar assaults on teachers have occurred in Tajikistan before, raising concerns about the safety of educational environments.

For example, in September 2023, a second-year student of the Tajik State University of Commerce was arrested for assaulting a teacher in Dushanbe.

Additionally, in Bokhtar, the capital of Khatlon province, two young men were detained for attacking a teacher in a school corridor.

Recall, Tajikistan’s President Emomali Rahmon during a meeting with education worker in early September stressed the importance of respecting teachers and announced the development of a new law, "On the Status of Teachers."

The law aims to improve teachers’ standing in society and ensure their protection. During a meeting earlier this school year, President Rahmon emphasized that “respect for teachers is respect for the nation’s future,” and urged for more support for educators.
