The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) continues supporting the development of Tajikistan’s private sector, including clients of the country’s partner financial institutions.

In collaboration with Tajikistan’s savings bank, Amonatbonk, the EBRD organized an Open House Day for the bank’s clients, its management, and employees of regional branches from Sughd and Khatlon provinces, the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO), districts subordinate to the center (RRP), and Dushanbe.

The event was attended by Yusuf Majidi, First Deputy Minister of Finance of Tajikistan and EBRD Governor for the Republic of Tajikistan.

As part of the event, Holger Wiefel, Head of the EBRD Office in Tajikistan, presented awards to Amonatbonk’s leadership and staff for successfully completing the "Climate Transition Planning" and "Capacity Building" programs, implemented with EBRD participation.

Business scaling and investment analysis training

Following the official ceremony, around 100 entrepreneurs took part in a masterclass titled "Scaling Business through Export Potential Development", organized by the EBRD specifically for Amonatbonk clients.

Additionally, credit officers from Amonatbonk branches in Sughd, Khatlon, GBAO, RRP, and Dushanbe received training on "Investment Project Analysis for SMEs".  This training aimed to enhance their skills in investment evaluation and management, ultimately improving their ability to assess and support promising small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) projects.

The training for bankers was conducted by experts from the UK-based consulting firm TA Consult, while the masterclass for entrepreneurs was led by professional trainers from Top Consulting.

Collaboration opportunities with EBRD

During the event, participants were also informed about potential collaboration opportunities with the EBRD under the "Small Business Advisory Program."

The EBRD is one of the leading international investors in Tajikistan. To date, it has provided over €1 billion through 183 projects in the country.

Amonatbonk is the only state-owned bank in Tajikistan.  Established in 1925, it is one of the oldest banks in the country and one of the largest based upon various criteria – including the number of branches and the number of served clients.

The institution is unique in its orientation towards implementing social, pension and other state programs.  Amonatbonk has 5 regional centers, 69 branches and more than 500 agencies.  This gives the institution a presence in the most remote mountainous parts of the country.
