Olimbek Yuldoshozoda, the head of Jabbor-Rasoulov district in Sughd province, has spoken publicly about the shocking murder of a 38-year-old man that occurred in front of his children late last month.

The incident took place in the early hours of June 28 in the village of Gulkhona.  According to officials, two unidentified intruders broke into the home of Zafi Abdurahimov with the intent to rob the family.  The assailants killed Abdurahimov in front of his children before fleeing the scene.

Speaking to Asia-Plus, Yuldoshozoda confirmed: “Law enforcement authorities are still searching for the perpetrators, but they have not yet been apprehended.”

Earlier reports from Asia-Plus, citing sources in the local prosecutor’s office and village administration, revealed disturbing details of the attack.  The victim’s teenage sons, aged 14 and 16, were reportedly tied with duct tape and beaten with a metal chain during the ordeal.

Tuichiboy Otamurodzoda, deputy head of the Gulkhona village council, stated that the boys are currently in stable condition and receiving medical care.

Deputy District Prosecutor Suhrob Sattorzoda also confirmed the incident, saying: “The sequence of the crime has been uncovered, and the investigation is ongoing,” though he declined to provide further details.

So far, authorities have not released official updates on the progress of the case.

According to the Prosecutor-General’s Office, 75 murders and attempted murders were recorded in Tajikistan in 2024—an increase of 18 cases compared to the previous year.  The Interior Ministry has not commented on the rising number of violent crimes.

Some analysts link the overall spike in severe crimes to a mass killing in Konibodom, where 23 people from seven families were murdered.  Four suspects have been arrested in connection with that case, and the investigation is ongoing.
