Dushanbe police warn of criminal liability for distributing pornography

The police in Dushanbe have warned about criminal liability for the distribution of pornographic materials. According to the statement by the capital’s Police Department, in accordance with Article 241 of the Criminal Code of the republic, the illegal production, import, and distribution of such materials is a crime.

The penalty under this article is a fine ranging from 400 to 600 calculation indicators (1 indicator equals 78.00 somoni) or imprisonment for up to 10 years.

The statement noted that according to the country’s legislation, the distribution of pornographic content, especially via the internet and social networks, is considered a socially dangerous act, for which strict measures of responsibility are established.

The reason for such a warning was the detention of a 24-year-old resident of Dushanbe, against whom criminal proceedings have been instituted precisely under Article 241 Tajikistan’s Criminal Code. According to the investigation, the suspect created pages on social networks under various names and distributed photo and video materials of a pornographic nature through them.

Currently, the young woman is in custody.
