The Ministry of Finance of Tajikistan and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) have signed agreements to implement two major infrastructure projects: “Improvement of the Water Supply System in Yovon District” and “Modernization of the Heating System in Dushanbe.”

According to the Finance Ministry’s press service, the total financing for the Yovon water supply project amounts to €4.8 million, which includes a €2.4 million loan, a €2.4 million grant, and €450,000 in technical assistance.

The Dushanbe heating system modernization project will receive $6 million, split equally between a grant and a loan.

The documents were signed on October 6 during a meeting between Tajikistan’s Minister of Finance, Faiziddin Qahhorzoda, and Mark Bowman, EBRD Vice President.

During the discussions, the sides addressed the EBRD’s role in supporting Tajikistan’s sustainable economic development, infrastructure improvement, the promotion of green energy, and the growth of the banking sector. Particular attention was paid to expanding green financing, implementing renewable energy solutions, improving public utilities, and advancing digitalization.

The Finance Ministry noted that the meeting was held in a constructive atmosphere. Both parties reaffirmed their readiness to expand financial cooperation and increase funding for priority projects through EBRD instruments.

To date, the EBRD has invested over €1 billion in Tajikistan’s economy through 185 projects, supporting key areas of the country’s development.
