As of October 1, amendments to Tajikistan’s law “On State Duties” have come into force, significantly increasing registration fees for political parties, public organizations, international NGOs, and legal associations.
Under the revised law, the fee for registering a political party has doubled from 3,750 to 7,500 somonis. Registration of international organizations now costs 15,000 somonis, up from the previous 7,500. The registration fee for public organizations has also increased from 750 to 1,500 somonis.
Legal entities are also affected by the hike. Establishing a Bar Association now costs 2,250 somonis, compared to 1,125 previously, while opening a law office will require 1,200 somonsi, up from 600.
The government has not officially explained the reasons behind the fee increases. However, civil society representatives warn that the new costs may pose a significant burden on smaller organizations and advocacy groups operating with limited resources.
Critics argue that the measure could discourage civic engagement and limit the formation of new public interest entities in the country.
