Over the first quarter of this year, the number of new entrepreneurs in Tajikistan exceeded the number of those closed: 11,500 new businesses were registered against 6,200 that ceased operations, ensuring overall sector growth.
As a result, the number of active individual entrepreneurs increased to 349,700, which is 4.3% more than a year ago. This was reported by the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan.
In percentage terms, the picture with entrepreneurs looks like this:
Entrepreneurs in Tajikistan
Category of entrepreneurs | Share (%)
Dehqon (peasant) farms — 52.2%
Entrepreneurs operating under a certificate with special conditions — 19.5%
Entrepreneurs operating under a patent — 16.8%
Entrepreneurs operating under a standard certificate — 11.6%
This structure shows that small businesses in the country are still closely linked to agriculture, yet they are developing in the trade and services sector.
Growth has been recorded in all categories. The number of entrepreneurs working under a patent (+9.5%) and under a special conditions certificate (+8.2%) is increasing the fastest, notes the Agency for Statistics. This indicates the expansion of small businesses in cities and the growth of the services sector.
The development of small entrepreneurship in the country is supported at the state level. In Tajikistan, there is legislation on the protection and support of entrepreneurship, which provides for the creation of favorable conditions for doing business, including tax incentives, government programs, and financial support. In particular, the state implements entrepreneurship development programs and provides support through grants and special funds.

In addition, the country implements a state program to support entrepreneurship for 2023–2027, aimed at developing entrepreneurship and improving business conditions.
The total funding amounts to about 113 million somoni, of which 19 million are from the budget, about 87 million from development partners, and 7 million from the private sector.
The program is expected to increase the number of entrepreneurs, create new jobs, and expand production and exports.
