The government of Tajikistan has provided housing to Niloufar Safoyeva (previously listed as Aliyeva), the mother of the 10-year-old Qobiljon Aliyev, who was killed in a school xenophobic attack in Moscow region.
This information was shared with Asia-Plus journalists, who visited the home of the deceased teenager, by one of Qobiljon’s relatives. However, the relative declined to provide specific details about the housing arrangement. Other sources at Asia-Plus neither confirmed nor denied the report.
Sherzod Alizoda, a relative of Qobiljon, stated that "the house was provided on behalf of the country’s government" but did not specify which governmental body was responsible for the transfer. Meanwhile, an informed source told Asia-Plus that several high-ranking officials visited Qobiljon’s family on the morning of December 22 to offer condolences. However, the source did not clarify which officials attended the visit.
Attempts to confirm whether the home was provided by the national government or the capital’s city hall were unsuccessful.
Relatives also announced that the family no longer requires financial assistance. "We are grateful to everyone who offered help and support. However, we want the public to know that we no longer need assistance, and the bank account opened in Qobiljon’s mother’s name has been closed. We kindly ask that no further donations be made to any accounts," stated Qobiljon Aliyev’s relatives.
It is important to note that Qobiljon’s family is in deep mourning and has declined further communication with the press.
The house, from which Qobiljon’s body was carried for burial, remains open and continues to receive visitors. People from not only the Shahrinav district but also other regions of Tajikistan come to offer their condolences.
Tragic Incident in Moscow Region
Qobiljon was stabbed to death at his school by a 15-year-old neo-Nazi identified as Timofey K on December 16.
Before the bloodshed began, Timofey K. approached a group of children and a teacher at the school and asked about their nationality. He recorded this exchange on his phone and later shared it on Telegram. When a security guard advanced, Timofey K. doused him in pepper spray and stabbed the man before chasing Qobiljon Aliyev up the stairs and fatally wounding him.
Media reports say Timofey K. was dressed in gear bearing slogans linked to mass killings. On his vest was the phrase “No Lives Matter,” a term associated with a subculture that imitates mass attackers and far-right groups. Other slogans referred to Anders Breivik’s 2011 Norway attacks and past assaults on schools and places of worship in the United States and New Zealand. Before the attack, he sent classmates a “manifesto” condemning Muslims, Jews, and the left generally, and advocating the need to “correct” the so-called “Great Replacement” — a far-right conspiracy theory claiming that white European populations are deliberately being replaced by non-white peoples, especially from Muslim-majority countries.
The Russian authorities have stopped short of calling the killing a hate crime. Statements by federal investigators have not mentioned a motive. Criminal proceedings have been instituted against the killer under articles related to murder and attempted murder of Russia’s Criminal Code. The investigation is under way.
The Tajik government has publicly demanded an “immediate, objective, and impartial investigation” into the boy’s murder, calling it a crime motivated by national hatred.
This is not the first case in which a Tajik child in Russia has fallen victim to a racially motivated killing. Over the past 22 years, at least six brutal murders of Tajik children in Russia have been reported in the media.
Migration experts highlight that such violent acts, committed by nationalists and radicals, are a consequence of the growing atmosphere of hostility toward migrants in Russia and the impunity for acts of racism.
