, March 3, Asia-Plus – An official opening of a joint project by the National Social Investment Fund of Tajikistan (NSIFT) and the German Fund for Supporting Education and Community Infrastructure Development was held in Qurghon Teppa, the capital of Khatlon province, today.  

The NSIFT executive director Sherali Zardov has told Asia-Plus the Government of Germany provided a grant of Euro 5.4 million for the implementation of the Khatlon social infrastructure development project designed for 34 months.   

“Some 50 percent of these funds will go to renovating primary schools,” Mr. Zardov said, noting that the project was launched in September last year. 

The NSIFT executive director says the project target 14 pilot districts in western part of Khatlon (

), except Qurghon Teppa.  “The range of work of the project is not more than 150 kilometers,” said Zardov, “Local communities in all the 14 districts drawn into the project have made their contributions in a form of building materials, machines and fuel for a total amount of US$1 million.”
