DUSHANBE, April 23, 2009, Asia-Plus — 17 new small hydropower plants have been introduced into operation in the country over the first three months of this year, Deputy Energy and Industries Minister, Poulod Muhiddinov, announced at a news conference in Dushanbe today.
According to him, these plants now provide more than 400 households and 11 enterprises with electrical power, generating up to 700 kWh of electricity per day. Besides, construction of 20 other small hydropower plants and five wind power stations is under way. “In January-March 2009, two wind power stations have been constructed in the country,” Muhiddinov said.
In all, more 50 small power plants are expected to be put into operation this year, the deputy minister noted.
He further added that this year’s budget earmarked 200 million somoni for construction of the Roghun hydroelectric power station (HPS) and these funds should be spent completely this year.
