DUSHANBE, October 18, 2010, Asia-Plus – The annual celebrity of the European Week in Tajikistan is starting today.

According to the Delegation of the European Union to Tajikistan, the European Week aims to bring the EU and Tajikistan closer together.  It presents works of European cultures to the Tajik public.  The European Week is an important tool to increase awareness of current relations between the European Union and the Republic of Tajikistan explaining in more detail the role of the EU in Tajikistan and EU integration process in the Tajik society.

This year, the European Week”s theme is “Closer to Europe”.  A number of different events will present the variety of European cultures and bring the Tajik and the European people closer to each other.

The European Week starts on October 18 at 18:00 with a Theatre Play held at the Mayakovsky Theater.  Citizens and guests of Dushanbe will have the opportunity to see the adaptation of a book “White Blood” developed by famous French chorographer Laurence Levassieur’s on the stage, which will be performed with the participation of Tajik performers.  This event is supported by the Swiss Cooperation Office in Dushanbe, the Embassy of France and the City Hall of Belfort.  The Theatre Play will be repeated on 20 October at 18:00 at the Padida Theatre.

A public event “Closer to Europe” will be organized for citizens of Dushanbe at the Kokhi Vahdat State Complex on October 22, at 15:00.  A number of stands of the European Union Member states as well as different European institutions will present various information about the European Union countries and cultures, including wide presentation on education opportunities.  In parallel to the exhibition, a concert will be organized with some Tajik bands performing European music. In addition to that, quizzes about the European Union with prizes as well as a separate program for children will be held.

On October 23 at 18:00 the Mayakovsky Theater will host a joint concert of the French musicians Antoine Berjeaut and Yve Dormoy developed together with the Tajik known band Mizrob.  Duo of Antoine Berjeaut and Yve Dormoy has an extensive creative experience working with the Tajik and Uzbek artists, the results of which will be shown in the concert which will also include audio-visual show.

The European Film Week will be held from October 19 to 24.  Five recent award winning European films from France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands as well as Lithuania will be screened at the Small hall of Jomi Cinema at 17:00.

This year, the European Week 2010 does not limit itself with Dushanbe.  Cultural events, including European film week, Theatre play, and art-residence program will take place in the cities of Khujand, Chkalovsk, Taboshar and Qiaroqqum of Sughd province November 1, 2010.
