DUSHANBE, September 4, 2010, Asia-Plus  — A new school has opened its doors to pupils in remote village of Arnohum in Kuhistoni Mastchoh district, Sughd province.

According to the UNICEF Country Office in Tajikistan, the new school was built in the place of the old one that was severely damaged by mudflow in spring 2009.

The new school that accommodates 110 pupils has been constructed and provided with all necessary equipment under support of the UNICEF CO in Tajikistan.

An official opening of the school took place on September 3 and it was attended by Ms. Hongwei Gao, UNICEF Country Representative, senior representatives from the Committee of Emergency Situations and Civil Defense (CES), as well as representatives from local authorities.

The school has been constructed in the framework of the emergency restoration program due to funds provided by donors.  The Government of Tajikistan and the Rapid Emergency Assessment and Coordination Team (REACT) applied to donors for help in August 2009.
