DUSHANBE, February 25, 2009, Asia-Plus — Deputies of the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower camber of parliament) endorsed a bill requiring moratorium on inspection of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) at a February 25 sitting, presided over by its head, Saydullo Khairulloyev.
Presenting the bill, the first deputy head of the State Committee for Investments and State-owned Property Management (GosComInvest), Marouf Sayfiyev, noted that the number of SMEs in the country has increased by 189,000 since July 2008, when the president signed a decree on introduction of a two-year moratorium on inspections of SMEs by all regulatory bodies.
We will recall that the moratorium took effect from August 1, 2008.
“We hope adoption of this law will promote SME development in the country and allow Tajikistan, which is now ranked 149th in the rating of attraction of investments, to improve its rank several place” the GosComInvest official said.
Speaking at the session, MP Yusufjon Ahmadov noted that authorized representatives from the government and president’s office had not come to attend the session and many proposals made by parliamentarians to the bill had not been taken into account. He suggested that consideration of the bill should be postponed.
However, the lower house head Saydullo Khairulloyev noted that adoption of that law was call of the time and after long discussions, parliamentarians approved the bill by the majority of votes.
