DUSHANBE, August 6, 2010, Asia-Plus — The 18th session of the Transport Policy Council at the Integration Committee of the Eurasian Economic Community (EAEC) that took place in Almaty, Kazakhstan on August 3-5 has outlined the activity priorities for 2011.

According to Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Transport and Communications, the meeting participants included senior representatives and specialists from transportation departments of Kazakhstan, Russia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan, as well as representatives of a number of NGOs and business structures.

The meeting considered issues related to cooperation in the fields of rail and automotive transportation, highways, as well as development of railroad rates.

The meeting participants also discussed measures to create the EAEC common transport space.  The common transport space concept creates favorable conditions for free movement of citizens and simplification and acceleration of the product distribution process within the EAEC area.

In April this year, the EAEC Integration Committee endorsed the list of the first priority projects for creation and development of infrastructure of the EAEC transportation routes.  107 investment projects have been put on this list.
