KULOB, July 26, 2010, Asia-Plus — The first half-year of 2010 has seen two skirmishes between Tajik border guards and Afghan armed drug smugglers on the Shuroobod stretch of the Tajik Afghan border in Khatlon province, according to the Shuroobod district administration.
Two drug smugglers have been killed and 118 kilograms of narcotics have been found at the scenes of the skirmishes, the source said.
Over the first six months of this year, servicemen from border unit 2931 deployed in Shuroobod district have seized 12 firearms from border violators.
Over the report period, officers from the Shuroobod police department have confiscated two assault rifles Kalashnikov and large amount of bullets of different caliber from the local population.
In all, 25 crimes have been registered in Shuroobod in January-June and 95.7 percent of them have been solved, the source added.
