DUSHANBE, July 22, 2010, Asia-Plus — Officers from the Drug Control Agency (DCA) have uncovered the next large channel through which Afghan narcotics were being smuggled from Tajikistan into Russia and organized drug-trafficking group has been exposed, according to the DCA press service.
Drug control officers were reportedly tracing and identifying members of this group for a long time. “We have received information that a large consignment of narcotics will be transported to Dushanbe and a special operation carried out by the drug control officers in Dushanbe on July 21 led to the arrest of alleged drug pusher,” said the source, “Eleven packages containing 10.1 kilograms of raw opium were confiscated from him. He purchased narcotics from Afghan national for the purpose of transporting them to Russia.”
Criminal proceedings have bee instituted against the drug pusher and an investigation is under way. He faces 12 to 20 years in prison on the drug trafficking charge.
