Dushanbe. June 14. “Asia-Plus” — Embargo on cargoes designed for the construction of Rogun hydropower plant imposed by Uzbekistan is violation of the principle of good-neighborly relations and coexistence, political analyst Kosimshoh Bekmuhammad says.

However, he believes that Uzbekistan’s decision to release freight wagons loaded with foodstuffs, fuel and other cargoes, and which are not designed for construction of Rogun hydropower plant, is a positive step made by Uzbekistan.

He said that “negotiations between presidents of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan is a definite achievement. Any delay in talks between leaders of the two states affects resolution of all problematic issues which occur between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.”

Bekmuhammad believes that those values which exist in Europe, are not applicable for Central Asia region. “Both political situation and development of relations between states completely depend on leaders of these countries,” he said.

Meanwhile, he is confident that the government of Tajikistan should not relax in terms of resolution of some specific problems. “The government of Tajikistan should keep searching for new ways of resolution of problems we have with Uzbekistan. Tajikistan should activate people’s diplomacy and diplomacy at the governmental level. It should also attract cultural workers, politicians and religious figures to settle current problems between the two countries,” he said.

Bekmuhammad believes that Tajikistan should try to change Uzbekistan’s views on Tajikistan’s current policy.
