KHOROG, March 17, 2010, Asia-Plus  — Six candidates have been nominated for five seats allotted to Gorno Badakhshan in the Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper chamber of parliament) under the country’s parliamentary elections code.

As it had been reported earlier, elections to the Majlisi Milli are scheduled for March 25, 2010 and Gorno Badakhshan, regions, Dushanbe, and cities and districts subordinate to the center have an equal number of representatives in the Majlisi Milli (five each).

Habib Vatanshoyev, an official with the GBAO regional administration, told Asia-Plus that Shugnan, Roshtqala and Murgab district councils had nominated the GBAO governor Qodir Qosim, Khorog’s city council had nominated head physician of the GABO regional hospital Shodi Gulayozov, Rushan’s district council had nominated the Rushan chairperson Qobilamo Ghulomshoyeva, Vanj’s district council had nominated the Badakhshonroh director Shamsmuhammad Nazriyev, Ishkashim’s district council had nominated Chancellor of the Khorog State University Gulkhoja Jangibekov and Davoz’s district council had nominated the Darvoz chairman Saydali Musofirov.

Five of them are members of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDPT) and Shamsmuhammad Nazriyev is an unaffiliated person, Vatanshoyev said.   

A joint meeting of GBAO regional city and district councils will take place in Khorog on March 25 to elect five persons who will represent Gorno Badakhshan in the upper house of parliament.
