KHUJAND, March 5, 2010, Asia-Plus  — The ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDPT) has won elections in 12 of 13 single-mandate constituencies in the northern Sughd province, while a second round of voting will take part in the Konibodom constituency, Anvar Jalilov, head of the PDPT organization for Sughd, announced at a news conference in Khujand on March 4.

“The PDPT member Nasrullo Mahmoudov and candidate of the Social-Democratic Party (SDPT) Shokirjon Hakimov are competing for a seat in parliament in this constituency,” said Jalilov, “Since none of the contenders managed to win an absolute majority during the first round, the second round of voting will take place in the Konibodom constituency on March 14.”

According to him, the PDPT members elected from the single-mandate constituencies in Sughd include nine men and three women.  “Three of them are under the age 50, eight others are under 60 years old and one is above the age of 60,” Jalilov said.
