DUSHANBE, December 17, 2009, Asia-Plus  — The Central Commission for Elections and Referenda (CCER) is doing its best to ensure holding of parliamentary elections in the spirit of democracy ad transparency, the CCER head Mirzoali Boltuyev told reporters on December 16.

“However, the commission also needs all-out support from political parties, candidates and the people of Tajikistan,” said Boltuyev, “If political parties and candidates participating in elections do not procrastinate, an efficiency of our work will be much higher.”

According to him, some 600 international observers are expected to arrive in Tajikistan to monitor parliamentary elections that will be held on February 28, 2010.  “Observers will come mainly from the CIS states, Eurasian Economic Community (EAEC), Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and the European Union,” Boltuyev noted.

In the meantime, the first meeting of the CCER that took place yesterday discussed organizational issues related to duties of the CCER members.  Muhibullo Dodojonov was elected to head CCER’s office.  The meeting participants also considered formation of constituencies, creation of the CCER news center and establishment of a commission for consideration of complaints and applications.
