DUSHANBE, December 16, 2009, Asia-Plus — In January-November 2009, the external trade turnover of Tajikistan, including electrical power and natural gas, has amounted to 3.1937 billion U.S. dollars, which was 74.1 percent of the January-November 2008 level or 1.14 billion dollars fewer, according to the State Committee for Statistics.
The trade balance was negative and mounted to 1.3956 billion US dollars.
Exports of goods in January-November 2009 amounted to 899.5 million US dollars, which was 32.6 percent, or 434.7 million dollars, fewer than in the same period of 2008.
Imports of goods into the country over the report period have amounted to 2.2946 billion US dollars, which was 22.8 percent, or 679.2 million dollars, fewer than in January-November 2008.
Compared to October 2009, exports increased last month by 0.5 percent, while imports in November increased by 1.4 percent.
In January-November 2009, Tajikistan had trade relations with 95 countries of the world, including 11 CIS states. Over the report period the CIS countries accounted for 46.8 percent (1.4946 billion dollars) of Tajikistan’s external trade turnover and the far abroad countries accounted for 53.2 percent (1.6991 billion dollars) of the country’s external trade turnover.
Share of primary aluminum accounted for 54 percent of Tajikistan’s exports in January-November 2009. Over the report period, Tajikistan has exported aluminum for 534.358 million dollars.
Electrical power accounted for 4.3 percent of Tajikistan’s external trade turnover in the report period. In January-November this year, Tajikistan has exported 4.918 billion kWh of electricity for 62.7 million U.S. dollars. Over the same eleven-month period, Tajikistan has imported 4.2391 billion kWh of electrical power for 73.9 million U.S. dollars.
Over the report period, Tajikistan has imported 198.3 million cubic meters of natural gas from Uzbekistan for 47.6 million U.S. dollars.
Share of cotton fiber accounted for 8.9 percent of Tajikistan’s exports in January-November 2009. Over the report period, Tajikistan exported 72,600 tons of cotton fiber for 80.2 million U.S. dollars, which was 1,200 tons and 17.2 million U.S. dollars fewer than in the same period of last year.
The main trading partners of Tajikistan in regard to its cotton were: Russia – 43.3 percent; Iran – 24.3 percent; Turkey – 6.7 percent; Latvia – 5.3 percent; Belarus – 4.6 percent; Uzbekistan and Ukraine – 4.1 percent each; Pakistan – 3.7 percent; Switzerland – 1.4 percent; Bulgaria – 0.8 percent; and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Moldova – 0.4 percent each.
Compared to January-November 2008, an average price of one ton of cotton fiber decreased by $214 and amounted to $1,105.
