Average amount remitted by Tajik migrants to Tajikistan makes $444, Russian Central Bank says

Dushanbe. December 10. Asia-Plus — An average amount remitted by Tajik labor migrants from Russia to Tajikistan makes $444, press service of the Russian Central Bank reports.

According to the Russian Central Bank, Armenia holds leading position as the beneficiary country of remittances – $678, followed by Georgia – $675 and Azerbaijan – $665.

With the biggest average transfer size ($613) Uzbekistan ranked first among Central Asia countries. Turkmenistan ranked second with the volume of $565, Kazakhstan ranked third with $476. Tajik migrants remit an average of $444.

Officially, in the first three quarters of 2009 the volume of remittances from individuals in Russia dropped by over a third, comparing to the same period of the last year – from $10.466 billion to $6.840 billion. The average size of the money transfer in third quarter of 2008 was $804 while a year later it reached $543, the Central Bank of Russia reports.

Thus, $3.085 billion was transferred from Russia in the third quarter, of which $2.833 billion were remitted to CIS countries.

The biggest amount ($699 million) was remitted to Uzbekistan. Tajikistan ranked second with $569 million. Ukraine goes third with $382 million. Kyrgyzstan received $273 million, Kazakhstan $48 million and Turkmenistan $10 million.

Russia received only $510 million from CIS countries, of which $285 million were transferred via money transfer systems and post service. Uzbekistan holds the leading position in terms of the volume of average transfer – $1508. Tajikistan sends an average of $1265, Kyrgyzstan – $1065, Kazakhstan – $715 and Turkmenistan – &679.
