Dushanbe. December 10. Asia-Plus — Banking sector is considered to be the most corrupt sector in Tajikistan, head of the Tajik State Financial Control and Counter-Corruption Agency, Fattoh Saidov said yesterday.

According to him, 59 corruption related crimes were revealed in various banks of the republic in the past nine months this year.

“Thus, workers of the Amonatbank’s branch in Mastchoh region have managed to steel more than 1 million 660.000 Somoni,” Saidov has said. “Bank officials in Tavildara region have stolen 270.000 Somoni. Tajik corruption fighters revealed 70.000 Somoni stole from pension fund in Penjikent region.”

Saidov stressed that bankers are most high-paid workers in the republic but some of them are not satisfied with it.

“This is, first of all, connected with the social and economic situation in Tajikistan,” he said. “It is impossible to eradicate corruption in Tajikistan. We are just trying to reduce it.”
