DUSHANBE, December 2, 2009, Asia-Plus — Counternarcotics agencies from member nations of the Collective Security Treaty Organizations (CSTO) have set up a database of transnational drug dealers.
The database will allow law enforcement authorities of the CSTO states (Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan) to address more efficiently the drug threat emanating from Afghanistan and other countries.
According to Russian media, Russia’s Federal Drug Control Service (FSKN) proposed to launch the database n December 1.
“The database will begin working in full capacity next year and the CSTO counternarcotics agencies will exchange information, primarily the classified one, and this will allow intensifying analytical and practical work to prevent illicit drug trafficking,” the CSTO press service said.
