The bodies of two children who went missing in the mountains of Shahritous district six days ago were found in a ravine on May 20, relatives and authorities confirmed.

The two brothers — 10-year-old Saidumar and 12-year-old Nasimjon — disappeared on May 14 while herding cattle in the mountains together with their uncle.

Speaking to Asia-Plus on May 21, the children’s uncle, Rajab Musoyev, said local residents discovered the bodies in a mountain gorge after nearly a week of intensive searches.

“They fell into a ravine and sustained injuries. For six days, villagers and employees of the Khatlon regional department of the Emergencies Committee searched the mountains, but we found them already lifeless,” Musoyev said.

According to him, it remains unclear how the boys became separated from their uncle and got lost in the mountains.

The children were buried on the evening of May 20 in the village of Navkat, Pakhtaobod jamoat, Shahritous district.

The Emergencies Committee confirmed the discovery of the bodies, stating that local residents found the children in a ravine before handing the bodies over to their relatives.

News of the children’s disappearance had earlier spread widely on social media, drawing significant public attention.

The incident comes amid several recent reports of missing persons being found dead in Tajikistan. Earlier, the body of 21-year-old Tahmina Sharifova, who had been missing for more than a month, was discovered in a river near the Uzbek border. In another case, the body of a 14-year-old boy was found in a river in Isfara two days after his disappearance. Authorities have launched investigations into those incidents.

According to the Emergencies Committee, 56 people died in accidents in Tajikistan between January 1 and May 13 this year, while another eight people lost their lives in natural disasters.
